What is International Foundation Year Studies programme?

Our 1-year international Foundation Year Programme is a fast-track program delivered at Extreme Commerce College. Upon successful completion of the programme, you will be able to join of your chosen undergraduate degree in your preferred international universities in UK. If you are a candidate who has been out of education for some time, and don’t have the grades required for an undergraduate course, or if you seek to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to excel in your chosen degree, our Pre-University Foundation studies is your go-to programme.

This qualification at level 3 represents practical knowledge. Skills, capabilities and competences that are assessed in academic terms.

All units within this qualification are internally assessed via submission of formal, written assignments and externally verified by the awarding body. The qualifications are criterion referenced and based on the achievement of all the specified learning outcomes.

To achieve a ‘pass’ for a unit, learners must provide evidence to demonstrate that they have fulfilled all the learning outcomes and meet all the standards specified by the assessment criteria.

Course Modules

The Level 3 Diploma in Pre-University Foundation studies consists of a total of 120 credits.  To successfully complete the qualification, candidates are required to complete 3 mandatory units and 3 optional units of the course.

Foundation Business and Management

This unit will provide the strategic understanding of:

  • Understand the principles of Starting a Business
  • Be able to identify the need for financial planning when starting up in business.
  • Understand the role of finance when managing a business
  • Be able to explain the recruitment process in small organisations and how this can enhance the workforce.
  • Be able to explain how the operations management is essential to a successful business.
  • Understand marketing and the competitive environment.

Foundation Economics

This unit will provide the strategic understanding of:

  • Understand the central purpose of economic activity and the ‘economic problem’.
  • Be able to determine the allocation of resources in competitive markets.
  • Understand production, efficiency and economies of scale.
  • Be able to identify and explain market failure
  • Outline the need for Government intervention in markets.
  • Be able to measure macroeconomic performance.
  • Understand how the macro economy works.
  • Describe the objectives of Government performance and economic performance.
  • Understand micro economic policy.

Foundation Accounting

This unit will provide the strategic understanding of:

  • Have an understanding of basic accounting principles and how to apply then in a given setting.
  • Be able to distinguish between capital and revenue expenditure
  • Be able to understand how and why the values of assets change.
  • Understand how to account for accruals and prepayments
  • Understand how to account for bad debts and the provision for doubtful debts
  • Understand the purpose and use of the Trial Balance in the product
  • Understand the purpose, and how to use the journal for the correction of errors
  • Be able to use control accounts as a regulator in accounting
  • Be able to make accounting adjustments based on incomplete records
  • Understand accounting approaches for different types of organisation.
  • Be able to analyse and evaluate accounting statements
  • Have an understanding of the purpose and role of budgeting, and be able to prepare simple budgets
  • Be able to identify the purposes and usage of ICT in accounting

Foundation Law

This unit will provide the strategic understanding of:

  • Understand how law is made in the UK and the processes for ratifying legislation.
  • Understand the composition and operation of the legal system and the roles of bodies within the legal system.
  • Understand basic concepts of criminal liability and actions taken for breaking the law.
  • Understand the operation of the courts in procedures and sentencing.
  • Understand negligence and duty of care, and the procedures in law for claiming damages.
  • Be able to understand the principles and purposes of the law of contract, production of a valid contract and the procedures for breach of contract.

Foundation Mathematics

This unit will provide the strategic understanding of:

  • Use number and algebra to solve numerical problems, equations, create and use formulas, create identities, sequences, functions and graphs.
  • Use and apple shape space and measure for problem solving, communication and reasoning.
  • Be able to Specify and Plan, Collect, Process and Represent, Interpret and Discuss appropriate data

Foundation Computing

This unit will provide the strategic understanding of:

  • Understand file management and e-document production using appropriate software.
  • Understand how to create spreadsheets and graphs using appropriate software.
  • Understand how to create and manipulate data within a database.

Study Skills

This unit will provide the strategic understanding of:

  • Understand the principles and values of good academic practice
  • Be able to present information to an audience
  • Understand a range of learning skills used in academic environments
  • Use research skills in a higher education setting.

Foundation Law

  • NVQ Level 2 or equivalent Level 2 qualification, or relevant experience (for mature applicants)
